Frequency Counters are a RF detectives best friend..
Useful for finding those rarely used frequencies,
determing what frequency that radio
for sale at the flea-market,
checking for bugs! and so on..

Theres only a handful of companies that make frequency counters portable..
Almost all counters only count, and do not produce audio of the signal.
Different dealers enjoy massive price markups on these since they are so rare.
Theres only a couple companies that even make them!

Basic Counters These types of counters just display the frequency of any high
powered analog transmission thats within a couple hundred
yards or less. Anything less than 1 watt and you usually
need to be on top of it. Some even decode subaudiable info.
(see next section labled Ctcss/Dcs/Dtmf )
Counters with Auto-Tune This type of counter can automatically tune a connected radio
receiver or scanner to the frequency it detects instantly!
Digital Counters Digital counters can pick up pulsed data and other types of short
duration digital transmissions such as TDMA, GSM, etc.
